Hawthorne Russell


Superintendent of Police

Mr. Hawthorne Russell is a Superintendent of Police who is a talented member of the Royal Bahamas Police Force. He was enlisted into the Royal Bahamas Police Force on 15 October 1990, and has an experience of over twenty nine (29) years. He obtained his first promotion to the rank of Corporal in 2001; followed by Sergeant in 2007; Inspector in 2012; Assistant Superintendent of Police in 2017 and Superintendent of Police in 2020. He currently serves as the Officer-in-Charge of the Security & Intelligence Branch (SIB) sub-office in the Grand Bahama & Northern Bahamas District and is well respected in the community.

During his tenure he has been posted in various sections and divisions within the Royal Bahamas Police Force, such as: Central Division, New Providence; Lucaya Police Station, Eastern Division GB; Eight Mile Rock Division; West End Division; Lucaya Police Station, South Eastern Division and SIB GB.

During the course of his career, he was the recipient of two (2) Commendations. The first of which was presented by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Paul Farquharson on the 9 Dec 2005 and the second was presented by the Governor General, Sir. Arthur D. Hanna, on the 19 Oct 2006. He was also the benefactor of a number of training courses and seminars which includes: Anti-Gang Seminar (Nassau); VIP Protection (Nassau), Terrorism (Nassau); Drugs and Organized Crime Work Shop (Montego Bay, Jamaica); VIP Protection Management Workshop (Orlando, Florida, USA); Capacity Building in Combating Terrorism (Kingston, Jamaica); Taskforce Management Course (Nassau); Strengthening Capacity of Law Enforcement Officials, Judges and Prosecutors in the Caribbean to Identify and Combat Trafficking in Persons especially Women and Children, (Nassau); Civil-Military Response To Terrorism, (Monterrey, California, USA); Surveillance Technology, (Deerfield Beach, Florida); Post Blast Investigation Course, (Nassau); Vital Infrastructure Security Course, (Kingston, Jamaica); Police Leadership Role in Combating Terrorism (Nassau); Effective Oral and Written Communication for Senior Officers Course (Nassau) and Superintendent’s Seminar, (Nassau).

He is a husband and the father of two (2) children and attends the Central Church of God, Coral Road Freeport, Grand Bahama. He graduated in Jun 1984 from the Hawksbill Senior High School, Freeport, Grand Bahama, with a Diploma (Credit). He attended the Bahamas Technical & Vocational Institute September 2000 to June 2002, where he excelled in the electronics class and on completion he was the awarded the Manager's Award for Excellence and a number of certificates for various subjects studied. His hobbies includes traveling, browsing the internet, boat and motor cycle riding, pool (8-ball) and watching sports and athletics programs.

Superintendent Russell was the recipient of the Long Service and Good Conduct Award in a ceremony at Government House on 15 Mar 2017and in 25 Jul 2019 he received the Meritorious Service Award.
