THE BAHAMAS CRISIS CENTRE
The Crisis Centre, formerly known as The Women's Crisis Centre, is a registered, non-profit organization that provides services to people who are the victims of physical, sexual and emotional abuse. The Centre was opened in 1982 by Dr. Sandra Dean-Patterson, who saw an urgent need in the community for such a facility. During the time the Centre has been in operation, the number of volunteers has grown steadily and the scope of services rendered to the community has been considerably expanded. Because  of   the  Centre's   extensive  efforts,  through  radio  shows,  newspaper articles,  workshops, school talks  and  other  presentations  to  churches  and  civic organizations, to sensitize the community to the devastating effects of all forms of abuse, persons from all socio-economic levels are seen at the Centre. CRIME STOPPERS (BAHAMAS)
Crime Stoppers is a community action programme that gives us as residents the opportunity to become involved in the fight against crime. The programme works because residents care and do not want crime in their neighborhoods. Many of our communities are small with people knowing each other from birth. Our challenge is to make residents the eyes of the community and partners of the law without endangering them by exposing their identity to even their next door neighbour. Crime Stoppers Bahamas was officially launched on November 27, 2001. Safe Bahamas provided the initial start up money. The programme is governed by a volunteer civilian Board of Directors with an officer from The Royal Bahamas Police Force serving as a coordinator to the Board.Visit website
