General elections will be held on September 16, 2021. The Royal Bahamas Police Force will ensure that all registered voters in The Bahamas will be allowed to freely exercise their Constitutional rights to elect the candidate, party and government of their choice. Each person is allowed one vote and when counted together with other votes will determine the overall outcome. The Bahamas has a history of free elections and this year's election is no different.

It was brought to the attention of the Commissioner of Police that some persons are deliberately destroying party paraphernalia posted throughout the city. These are permitted during election time as political parties campaign. The Commissioner wishes to remind the public that it is an offense to interfere with or destroy party paraphernalia and persons caught doing so will be prosecuted.

The Bahamas is a democratic country that is governed by the rule of law, where its citizenry shows respect for those laws, life and personal property. Accordingly, the Commissioner implores the leaders of all political parties to encourage their supporters to exercise restraint during this time and to respect the process and not destroy or remove their opponent's paraphernalia, but to notify the police whenever and wherever they observe persons doing so.

Notably, the Commissioner of Police has established an Election Investigation Unit that is responsible for investigating all matters related to the Bahamas National General Elections. It is the desire of the Commissioner for all candidates to campaign unhindered and for members of the public to move about freely and to express themselves freely.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force is a noble Organization founded on the tenets of integrity, loyalty and courage. The police will continue to work in partnership with all citizens, residents and visitors, to provide quality law enforcement service, with emphasis on the maintenance of law and order, the preservation of peace, the prevention and detection of crime and the enforcement of all laws with which it is charged.

The Commissioner of Police admonishes all police officers and police civilians to perform their duties in a manner that respects individual human rights and which reflects fairness, sensitivity and compassion. Notwithstanding, we shall act in firm pursuit of all offenders of our laws to ensure a safe and just society. Police officers however, ought to be impartial and not show or demonstrate by their actions or behavior their political preference and are reminded that police officers must always be impartial in dealing with members of the public as they carry out the mandate of the Force.
