DEU Makes Major Drug Bust in Ragged Island

The efforts of the men and women of the Royal Bahamas Police Force resulted in the seizure of a shipment of dangerous drug off the coast of Ragged Island on Friday 14th August 2020.

According to reports, shortly after 11:00 a.m., acting on information a joint operation was mounted by OPBAT which included the US Coast Guard, DEA, RBDF, DEU, and the Marine Division. The team conducted an aerial surveillance along the Ragged Island chain when they notice a white go-fast boat with three males on board. As the aircraft got close to the sea vessel, officers noticed when the males abandon the vessel in shallow waters off Ragged Island. The aircraft was able to land on a nearby terrain as the suspects made good their escape into a wooded area. The officers conducted a search of the vessel and recovered 55 nylon sacks of suspected marijuana. The sacks were collected and transported to New Providence; the drugs were weighted at 815 pounds and has an estimated street value of $815,000.00.

Investigations into this matter continues as significant leads are being followed.
