Posted on September 4, 2024 | by The Royal Bahamas Police Force

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Shanta Knowles and ACP Janet McKenzie led a delegation of fourteen remarkable women officers from The Royal Bahamas Police Force to the prestigious 61st International Association of Women Police (IAWP) Conference held in Chicago, Illinois, USA. This year's conference theme "Women's Empowerment," drew participation from over 65 countries, each showcasing their dedication to advancing women in law enforcement.

The conference was a momentous opportunity for female officers worldwide to unite, learn, and collaborate on best practices for empowering women within police forces and the broader community. Among the highlights was the Parade of Nations, in which the Bahamian officers proudly carried the nation’s flag, symbolizing the strength and solidarity of Bahamian women in law enforcement on an international stage.

The conference emphasized the critical role women play in modern policing, with a range of workshops, keynotes, and panel discussions covering topics from leadership in law enforcement to addressing gender-based violence and promoting community safety.
