MAYAGUANA: UPDATE: JOINT OPERATION- LARGE COCAINE SEIZURE

A joint operation between police on the island of Mayaguana, Operation Bahamas Turks & Caicos (OPBAT), the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) has resulted in eight hundred and sixty (860) pounds of suspected Cocaine being confiscated on Tuesday 26th March 2024.

According to reports, shortly after 1:00 a.m. officers acting on intelligence proceeded to the Mayaguana Airport where they met a white single-engine Cessna aircraft at a stop on the airstrip. It is reported that as the officers approached the aircraft, two (2) males, exited the aircraft and fled into nearby bushes.

Officers conducted a search of the aircraft and discovered thirteen (13) white sacks, which contained three hundred and seventy-nine (379) kilos of suspected Cocaine.

Police are questioning a 37-year-old Brazilian male in connection with this seizure, which has an estimated street value of seven million, five hundred and eighty thousand ($7,580,000.000) dollars.

Police are actively in search of the second male involved in this matter. Investigations continue.

ANDROS: UPDATE: AN ADULT MALE DIES FOLLOWING TRAFFIC FATALITY

Police can confirm that a 42-year-old male, of Andros has died following a traffic accident that occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Saturday 23 March, 2024.

The Staniard Creek resident died on Tuesday 26th March, 2024 while being treated in hospital and becomes the third victim, in the deadly crash, which occurred on Queens Highway, south of Staniard Creek.

EXUMA: MAN ARRESTED FOR FIREARM POSSESSION

Police in Exuma arrested a 57-year-old male of Florida after he was found in possession of a firearm that contained a quantity of ammunition.

Preliminary reports indicate that officers, acting on information, arrived at Exuma International Airport shortly after 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday 26th March, 2024 where they conducted a search of the suspects’ luggage and discovered the items. Investigations are ongoing.

NEW PROVIDENCE

OPERATION CEASEFIRE: FIREARM CONFISCATED

Police along with members of the Royal Bahamas Defence officers attached to Operation Ceasefire confiscated a firearm and a quantity of ammunition shortly before 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday 26th March, 2024.

Based on preliminary reports, officers discovered and seized the weapon from the rear of an abandoned structure in the vicinity of Howard Street. No arrests were made in connection to this incident.

Investigations are ongoing into this matter by the Anti-Gang & Firearms Investigation Task Force.
