OPERATION CEASEFIRE: FIREARMS & DRUGS CONFISCATED, SUSPECT ARRESTED

In two separate incidents on Thursday 21st March, 2024, a team of officers from Operation Ceasefire, comprising of the Royal Bahamas Police and Defence Force, confiscated three (3) firearms, ammunition, and suspected marijuana, leading to the arrest of an adult male.

According to initial reports, shortly after 7:00 p.m., officers from Operation Ceasefire simultaneously executed search warrants on two (2) separate homes on Danza Close, Kemp Road.

In the first incident, following the execution of a search warrant, officers discovered and confiscated two (2) firearms containing ammunition, a quantity of suspected marijuana, and additional ammunition, resulting in the arrest of the lone occupant, a 19-year-old male.

The estimated weight and street value of the suspected marijuana are currently unknown.

During the final incident, officers proceeded to execute a search warrant on the second residence; however, as they entered the property, an unknown male fled the premises, leading to a pursuit. Despite the individual evading apprehension, a loaded firearm was confiscated from the property from which he fled.

Investigations are ongoing into these matters.

POLICE PROBE AN ALLEGED ATTEMPTED SUICIDE

Police are investigating an alleged suicide attempt of a 15-year-old teen girl which occurred on Thursday 21st March, 2024.

Preliminary reports indicate that shortly before 8:00 p.m., the teen, while at a residence on Minnie Street, reportedly ingested an unknown liquid substance. She was transported to the hospital by EMS personnel for medical attention and evaluation.

Investigations are ongoing.

POLICE CONFISCATE FIREARMS, SUSPECT ARRESTED

In less than 24 hours, police seized two (2) additional firearms along with a quantity of ammunition in separate incidents on Friday 22nd March, 2024. In the first incident, Fox Hill Division officers confiscated a firearm in the Fox Hill community shortly after 11:00 a.m.

Preliminary reports indicate that during mobile patrols on Grant Street, officers observed a male near an abandoned structure behaving suspiciously who, upon seeing them, fled, eluding capture. A search of the area from which the male fled led to the discovery of a firearm.

In the final incident, a team of officers from Operation Ceasefire, consisting of the Royal Bahamas Police and Defence Force, shortly before noon, carried out a search warrant at a residence located on Young Street, where they made the discovery of a firearm containing a quantity of ammunition, resulting in the arrest of a 37-year-old male resident.

Further investigations into these matters will be conducted by the Anti-Gang and Firearm Investigation Task Force.

POLICE INVESTIGATE LATEST ARMED ROBBERY

An investigation is underway into an armed robbery incident that occurred on Friday 22nd March, 2024 on West Bay Street.

According to reports around 1:30 p.m., the victim, while in the parking lot of a shopping plaza, exited his vehicle to conduct a banking transaction when three (3) unknown males, the occupants of a white Japanese vehicle, approached, and one of them produced a firearm and robbed him of a large sum of cash before making good on their escape. Police asking the public to contact 911, 919, the Criminal Investigation Department at 502-9991, or CRIME STOPPERS at 328-TIPS if they have any information regarding this incident.

SUSPECT IN CUSTODY AFTER FATAL STABBING INCIDENT

Police arrested a 15-year-old male on Thursday 21st March, 2024, after he fatally stabbed a male sibling in Upper Bougue-Eleuthera.

Preliminary reports indicate that shortly after 8:00 p.m., the suspect and the 25-year-old victim, while driving, were involved in an altercation. It is reported that on arrival at their destination, the teen produced a sharp instrument and stabbed the victim in the upper body.

The victim reportedly exited the vehicle and collapsed a short distance away. He was examined by the local doctor on scene, who confirmed no signs of life.

The juvenile was taken into police custody while on scene, and the instrument believed to be utilized was seized. Investigations continue into this matter.

POLICE INVESTIGATE DEATHS ON CRUISE LINE

Police on the island of Eleuthera are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding an incident that has left two (2) crew members of a cruise line dead.

The incident reportedly occurred on Friday 22nd March, 2024 while the vessel was moored at Half Moon Cay, in the Eleuthera district.

Preliminary reports indicate that sometime around 9:30 a.m., the captain was alerted via its automatic fire alarm system to a malfunction in the ship’s engine room.

Subsequently, the vessel's fire response team was activated, and on arrival to the engine room, they encountered sweltering condensation as a result of a steam leak, which was immediately rectified.

A check was made for the crew members; however, they were found unresponsive with severe burns.

Both victims were examined by the District Medical Doctor and subsequently pronounced dead.

Investigations continue.
