NEW PROVIDENCE

ADVISORY ROAD CLOSURES REF: NATIONAL YOUTH PEACE MARCH AND RALLY

The Royal Bahamas Police Force wishes to advise the general public that on Friday 15th March, 2024 the Ministry of Education, Technical and Vocational Training will be hosting a “National Youth Peace March and Rally”.

This March will begin at 8:30 a.m. from the Southern Recreation Grounds Baillou Hill Road and Market Street, ending on Arawak Cay-West Bay Street, and the Youth Rally will begin at noon; hence, there will be temporary road closures and diversion on the following roads:

ROUTE:

South on Market Street to Chapel Street, west on Chapel Street to Meadow Street, continue west on Meadow Street to Nassau Street, north on Nassau Street to West Bay Street, west on West Bay Street to Clifford Park.

From 6:00 a.m. on Friday 15th March, 2024, until the completion of the March/Rally, no vehicle will be permitted on the following streets:

  • MARKET STREET BETWEEN CHAPEL STREET
  • MEADOW STREET BETWEEN NASSAU STREET
  • WEST BAY STREET TO CLIFFORD PARK

To facilitate the National Youth Peace March, local traffic in the affected areas will be diverted out of the areas.

The police and the organizers apologize for any inconvenience caused.

MOBILE DIVISION CONFISCATE FIREARM & DANGEROUS DRUGS

Officers from the Mobile Division confiscated a firearm and a quantity of suspected marijuana on Wednesday 13th March, 2024, in the vicinity of Mackey Street.

According to initial reports, around 10:45 a.m., during mobile patrol, officers were on Peach Street conducting a routine stop-and-search of a black Chevy truck with a single male driver. It is reported that the driver exited his vehicle, dropped a firearm, and fled on foot, leaving behind his vehicle. Officers pursued him, but he managed to evade them.

An immediate search near the vehicle led to the seizure of a loaded firearm, and a subsequent search inside of the vehicle revealed a quantity of suspected marijuana.

At this time, the suspected marijuana's weight and value are unknown.

Police are actively searching for the driver's whereabouts in connection with this incident.

ARRAIGNMENT

Police would like to inform the public that on Thursday 14th March, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., the AntiGang & Firearms Investigation Task Force will place a former Police Constable before the Magistrate’s Court on charges of being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

This is in reference to the incident which occurred at a business establishment on Cowpen Road on Tuesday 12th March, 2024.

NORTHERN BAHAMAS

BIMINI: MURDER SUSPECT CAPTURED

The Royal Bahamas Police Force wishes to advise the general public that the wanted suspect, Micah Johnson, aged 32, has been apprehended.

According to initial reports, around 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday 13th March, 2024 a team of officers from Bimini and the Drug Enforcement Unit, acting on information went to the area of Whispering Pines, where the suspect was apprehended along with a female who was found in possession of a substance suspected to be marijuana.

The suspect will be transported to the capital to continue further investigations.

ABACO: FIVE ADULTS ARRESTED DANGEROUS DRUGS CONFISCATED:

In three separate incidents officers while executing multiple search warrants on Green Turtle CayAbaco arrested five (5) adults, including three males and two females after they were found in possession of a quantity of dangerous drugs on Thursday 14th March, 2024.

In the first incident, shortly after 5:00 a.m. officers arrested two adults, a 33-year-old male and a 30-year-old female, after searching their residence and uncovering a large amount of suspected marijuana.

In the second incident around 5:30 a.m., officers arrested a 32-year-old male after searching his residence and finding a quantity of suspected marijuana.

The final incident occurred around 6:20 a.m., when officers took into custody a 32-year-old male and a 33-year-old female following a search of their residence, where several large packages containing suspected marijuana were discovered.

At this time, the weight and value of the suspected marijuana in these incidents are unknown.

Investigations are ongoing.
