NEW PROVIDENCE
POLICE INVESTIGATE LATEST HOMICIDE
Police are investigating a fatal shooting incident that occurred on Monday 11th March, 2024 in the Montel Heights community claiming the life of a 45-year-old male.
Police were notified of gunshots emanating in the vicinity of Akel Close shortly after 9:00 p.m., and upon their arrival, they found an unresponsive male lying outside a white Japanese model vehicle suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to his upper body.
Initial reports revealed that a lone gunman dressed in dark clothing, approached and shot the victim multiple times before fleeing on foot, making good on his escape.
EMS personnel responded to the scene, examined the victim, and determined that he showed no vital signs of life.
Police are appealing to members of the public who may have any additional information that can help solve this matter to contact 919/911, the Criminal Investigation Department at 502-9991/2, or Crime Stoppers at 328-TIPS (8477).
POLICE CHASE LEADS TO FIREARM SEIZURE AND ARREST
A police pursuit during the early hours of Tuesday 12th March, 2024, ended with the confiscation of a loaded firearm and the arrest of a 21-year-old male.
Preliminary reports indicate that shortly after 2:00 a.m., Mobile Division officers were conducting mobile patrols on St. Albans Drive when they observed a blue Nissan Cube with two (2) male occupants traveling at a high rate of speed in a northern direction.
The officers attempted to stop the vehicle; however, the driver refused, resulting in the vehicle being pursued and intercepted on West Bay Street, where one male occupant was apprehended and the other managed to flee. A search of the vehicle was conducted leading to the discovery of a firearm containing ammunition, which subsequently led to the apprehension of the male, aged 21.
The Anti-Gang & Firearms Investigation Task Force will continue investigations.
NORTHERN BAHAMAS
POLICE INVESTIGATE DEATH OF A FEMALE TOURIST: GRAND BAHAMA
An investigation is underway by the police on the island of Grand Bahama into the death of a 27-year-old American woman from Florida, U.S.A.
According to initial reports, around 5:30 p.m. on Monday 11th March, 2024, members of the Royal Bahamas Police Force (Criminal Investigation Department—Grand Bahama) were contacted and informed of a female passenger who was found unresponsive in her cabin onboard a cruise line en route to the Bahamas.
A team of medical personnel from the ship assisted and performed CPR, but no vital signs of life were detected and she was declared deceased.
During their initial investigation, officers confiscated a quantity of suspected cocaine from the cabin, and arrested a 32-year-old American male from Florida, U.S.A.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death. Investigations are ongoing into this incident.
NEW PROVIDENCE
CONSTABLE ARRESTED WITH ILLEGAL FIREARM & AMMUNITION
A Constable of the Royal Bahamas Police Force is in custody after he was reportedly found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on Tuesday 12th March, 2024.
According to initial reports, shortly before 1:00 a.m., an off-duty police officer observed the constable brandishing a firearm at a business establishment located on Cowpen Road and reported him, which resulted in the constable, who was on extended sick leave at the time, being arrested and the weapon, a.45 pistol with ammunition, being confiscated.
Police are aggressively investigating this incident and wish to assure members of the public of their commitment to enforcing the Laws that govern the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.
Investigations into this matter continue.
