NEW PROVIDENCE

ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS APPREHENDED BY POLICE

An adult male has been taken into custody on Wednesday 28th February, 2024, following the apprehension and detention of a large group of Haitian nationals.

Initial reports indicate that shortly after midnight, a team of officers from the Mobile Division, acting on information, arrived at Arawak Cay where they conducted a routine stop-and-search of a dark-colored vehicle with three (3) occupants: a 43-year-old Haitian male driver and two (2) Haitian female passengers. It is reported that the driver was able to provide immigration documentation, proving his legal status in the country, but the females did not. This led the officers to search a nearby white 40 ft. vessel, where they found thirty-five (35) undocumented Haitian nationals hidden onboard. The documented male was taken into custody by police.

The illegal immigrants, comprising of twenty-six (26) males and nine (9) females, were detained by police and handed over to officers from the Bahamas Department of Immigration.

Investigations are ongoing.

STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERED IN ARMED ROBBERY

Police have launched an investigation into an armed robbery incident involving two (2) male suspects that occurred in Culmersville on Tuesday 27th February, 2024.

Preliminary reports indicate that around 10:40 p.m., two (2) unknown gunmen confronted a male victim and robbed him of a rented red Nissan March.

Following significant leads, officers recovered the stolen vehicle on Fritz Lane, off East Street.

The Criminal Investigation Department will continue investigations into this matter.

POLICE CONFISCATE FIREARM

On Tuesday 28th February, 2024, shortly after 8:00 p.m., officers confiscated a firearm in the area of Kemp Road.

According to reports, officers executed a search warrant at a residence on Kemp Road, south of Shirley Street where nothing illegal was found within that premises; however; acting on information a firearm was discovered and confiscated in a yard adjacent to the property.

No arrests were made in connection to this incident. Investigations are ongoing into this matter by the Anti-Gang & Firearms Task Force Unit.

STOLEN VEHICLE ALERT

Police seek the public’s assistance in finding the following vehicle that was reported stolen on Tuesday 27th February, 2024:

1. A white 2012 Nissan Cube L/P #AY3574 – stolen from West Hill Street
