NEW PROVIDENCE

POLICE INVOLVED SHOOTING

His Majesty Coroner is leading the investigation into a police-involved shooting that occurred on Wednesday, 26th February 2025.

Preliminary reports indicate that shortly after 7:30 p.m., while in the area of Palm Beach Street and Homestead Street, a police officer encountered an armed male who discharged a weapon in his direction. The officer, in fear for his life, withdrew his police service weapon and returned fire, which resulted in the suspect being fatally wounded. A firearm was recovered from the scene.

POLICE CONFISCATED HIGH-POWERED WEAPON

On Wednesday, 26th February 2025, after 7:30 p.m., police confiscated a high-powered weapon containing ammunition.

According to initial reports, officers attempted to stop a vehicle on Robinson Road after observing the occupants acting suspiciously. The driver failed to comply, leading to a brief chase that ended on Homestead Avenue, where the occupants fled on foot. A search of the vehicle revealed a high-powered weapon. No arrests were made as the investigation continues.

POLICE INVESTIGATE ARMED ROBBERY

Police launched an investigation into an alleged armed robbery that occurred on Wednesday, 26th February, 2025, before 5:00 p.m.

Initial reports indicate that the victim was parked at a business establishment located in Southwestern New Providence. Further, while stationary in her vehicle, two unknown males entered her vehicle without her consent, produced a firearm, and demanded she drive to a financial institution where they stole a sum of cash from her and fled the area.

In response, Police have taken into custody a 36 year old male who is being questioned reference to this incident.

STOLEN VEHICLE ALERT

Police seek the public’s assistance in locating the following vehicles that were reported stolen on Wednesday, 26th February, 2025:

  1. A gray 2010 Nissan Cube – stolen from Croton Street.
  2. A white 2019 Honda Fit L/P #AH3379 – stolen from Current Road.
  3. A white 2011 Nissan Caravan L/P #AL0993 – stolen from Collins Drive.
