UPDATE ON DEATH INVESTIGATIONS

Police wish to advise the public regarding the recent death investigations on the following matters listed below that were pending classification.

  1. Eastern Estates - Willet Street Incident

    On Saturday, 8th February 2025, police reported that a 65-year-old male was found lifeless with injuries at a home on Willet Street. The incident was initially classified as a suspicious death. However, the autopsy has determined that the victim’s injuries were not life threatening. He had a pre-existing medical history and died due to constricted breathing. As a result, the matter is now classified as a Sudden Death.

  2. Deveaux Street Incident

    On Wednesday, 12th February 2025, police reported that an adult male was found unresponsive with injuries on Deveaux Street, off East Street. He was transported to hospital, where he later succumbed. The incident was initially classified as a suspicious death. However, the autopsy has determined that the victim’s injuries were not lifethreatening. He died from irregular heartbeat rates. As a result, the matter is now classified as a Sudden Death.

  3. Wilson Street Incident

    On Thursday, 13th February, 2025, police reported that after Fire Services extinguished a fire the lifeless body of an adult male was found in a building on Wilson Street, off Wulff Road. The incident was originally classified as a death investigation. However, the incident is now classified as a homicide.

NORTHERN BAHAMAS

GRAND BAHAMA: POLICE INVESTIGATE ALLEGED SUICIDE

Police in Grand Bahama are investigating the suspected suicide of a 36-year-old man on Tuesday, 18th February, 2025.

Acting on information, responding officers conducted a search of a bushy area, off Grand Bahama Highway, after 7:40 p.m. During the search, they discovered a vehicle and a short distance away a male unresponsive with a gunshot wound and a firearm nearby. Preliminary reports indicate he had been missing since 2:00 p.m. In addition, Police seized a quantity of ammunition from the victim and his vehicle.

A doctor visited the scene and pronounced him dead. Investigation continues.

D.E.U OFFICERS SEIZED WEAPON

Police in Grand Bahama seized a firearm at a residence shortly after 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19th, 2025.

Initial reports indicate that officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit, acting on information, executed a search warrant at a residence on Westeria Avenue, where a firearm, along with a quantity of ammunition, was discovered.

In addition, a small amount of hydroponic Marijuana was also found.

Consequently, the 33-year-old male occupant was taken into custody and is assisting with the investigation.

BIMINI: POLICE INVESTIGATE DROWNING

Police in Bimini are investigating a drowning incident that took place on Wednesday, 19th February 2025, shortly after 11:00 a.m.

Initial reports indicate that a 70-year-old Caucasian female was swimming in the area of Paradise Beach North Bimini when a family member who was ashore noticed she became motionless. She was assisted to the shore, and CPR was administered. However, all efforts proved fruitless. She was later pronounced dead by a medical doctor. Investigation continues.
