NORTHERN BAHAMAS

ABACO: HUMAN SMUGGLING UPDATE

On Friday, 7th February 2025, authorities detained additional undocumented Chinese nationals – three (3) males and two (2) females – in Mount Hope.

This is in connection to the joint operation conducted on Thursday, 6th February 2025, where several Bahamians were arrested for suspected human smuggling, and eight undocumented immigrants were initially detained.

The joint operation involves officers from the Royal Bahamas Police Force, the Royal Bahamas Defense Force, and The Bahamas Immigration Department. Investigations are ongoing.

BIMINI: POLICE INVESTIGATE INCIDENT AT SEA

Police in Bimini are investigating an alleged shark attack involving two (2) female tourists that occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Friday, 7th February 2025. Initial reports indicate that the victims, both U.S.A. residents, sustained injuries while swimming in the waters at Bimini Bay. They received initial treatment at a local clinic before being airlifted to New Providence for further medical attention. One of the victim's injuries is listed as serious. Investigations are ongoing.

FAMILY ISLANDS

ELEUTHERA: POLICE INVESTIGATE TRAFFIC FATALITY

An investigation is underway into a fatal traffic accident that occurred in Upper Bogue on Friday, 7th February 2025.

Police received reports of the incident around 6:45 p.m. and responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they observed a gold Nissan Bluebird with extensive damage after it collided with a building. The male driver, who was the sole occupant, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Investigations are ongoing.

ANDROS: POLICE SEEK ASSISTANCE IN BOATING ACCIDENT

Police in Andros are investigating a boating accident that took place around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, 7th February, 2025, in waters near a Naval Base.

The incident occurred 150 feet from the Naval Base seawall. Preliminary reports indicate that a white open hull-boat, equipped with two 150HP outboard engines and occupied by six males, were travelling northbound when it struck a U.S. Marine who was free diving. The boat failed to stop and continued its course.

The diver sustained severe injuries, was assisted to shore, and later airlifted to the United States for medical treatment.
