NEW PROVIDENCE
POLICE INVESTIGATE FATAL STABBING
Police are investigating a stabbing incident on Sunday, 2nd February 2025, that claimed the life of a 61-year-old man.
The incident occurred after 4:00 p.m. in the vicinity of Meadow Street and Augusta Street. Responding officers discovered the victim with an apparent stab wound to the upper body. He succumbed to his injuries before Emergency Medical Services arrived.
Following significant leads, a 41-year-old male was taken into custody and is assisting with the investigating.
POLICE INVESTIGATE SHOOTING
On Sunday, 2nd February 2025, police launched an investigation into a shooting incident that occurred shortly before 10:30 a.m. on East Street South, near Malcolm Road.
Responding Officers discovered a 34-year-old male inside a vehicle with apparent gunshot wounds in front of a business establishment. He was transported to the hospital by ambulance for medical treatment.
Preliminary reports indicate that the occupants of a white vehicle opened fire at the victim before fleeing the scene. No arrests have been made as investigation continue.
MAN ARRESTED, FIREARM SEIZED
Law enforcement officers from Operation Black Scorpion arrested a 46-year-old man on Sunday,2nd February, 2025, after seizing a firearm.
Preliminary reports indicate that sometime around 12:20 p.m., officers conducting patrols on Williams Street carried out a routine stop-and-search of a male. This led to the seizure of a loaded firearm and his subsequent arrest.
Operation Black Scorpion is a collaborative effort involving officers from the Royal Bahamas Police Force and the Royal Bahamas Defense Force.
RECOVERED STOLEN VEHICLE ALERT The following vehicle was recovered on Sunday, 2nd February, 2025:
- A white Nissan March L/P #DB6079 – recovered from Abundant Life Road. It had been reported stolen on Tuesday, 28th January, 2025, from Sea Beach Estates.
ARRAIGNMENT
Police wish to advise the General Public that on Monday, 3rd February 2025, a 46-year-old man will be placed before the Magistrate Court for Murder and Arson.
These charges stem from a structural fire that occurred on Monday, 6th January 2025, which resulted in a 31-year-old female sustaining severe burns. She later succumbed to her injuries while hospitalized.
ARRAIGNMENT
Police wish to advise the General Public that on Monday, 3rd February, 2025, two men, aged 32and 20, will be placed before the Magistrate Court for Murder and Abetment to Murder.
These charges stem from the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old woman that occurred on Sunday, 26thJanuary, 2025, on Finlayson Street.
POLICE CONFISCATED FIREARM
On Monday, 3rd February, 2025, a joint effort by police officers resulted in the seizure of a loaded firearm on Fleming Street, off Market Street.
Initial reports indicate that sometime around 12:30 p.m. officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit and Canine Unit, acting on intelligence, conducted a search of an abandoned building where they discovered a loaded firearm. No arrests were made. Investigation continues.
ARRAIGNMENT
On Monday, 3rd February, 2025, 33-year-old Hugh Gray Jr. was arraigned in Magistrate Court #5, before Senior Magistrate Raquel Whyms, on eight (8) counts of Abetment to Importation of Dangerous Drugs.
He was not required to enter a plea to the charges and was remanded to The Bahamas Department of Corrections. The matter was adjourned to Thursday, 17th April, 2025.
The charges stem from a major drug seizure following a plane crash on the island of Acklins on Friday, 6th December, 2024.
