ADVISORY: PHISING SCAM
The Financial Crimes Branch of the Royal Bahamas Police Force wish to alert members of the public to a phishing scam in which fraudsters are impersonating legitimate financial institutions. These scammers are sending SMS messages and notifications that appear to be from local banks, urging recipients to download a link and enter their personal banking information.
The public is strongly urged to exercise extreme vigilance and refrain from clicking on any links from unknown or suspicious sources. Engaging with these fraudulent messages can lead to compromised bank accounts and financial loss.
If individuals receive any notification prompting them to update or alter their banking details, they should immediately contact their financial institution by calling the official customer service number or visiting their local branch.
The Royal Bahamas Police Force remains committed to protecting citizens from financial fraud and urges the public to report any suspicious activity.
NEW PROVIDENCE
POLICE INVESTIGATE SEXUAL ASSAULT
An investigation is underway into an alleged sexual assault involving an adult female at a residence on Miami Street.
According to initial reports, the victim was allegedly held against her will by a male known to her from Friday, 17th January 2025, to Sunday, 19th January 2025. Furthermore, it is reported that she was attacked and sexually assaulted multiple times.
Police are pursuing significant leads in this matter as the investigation.
On Monday, 20th January, 2025, officers from the Fox Hill Division arrested four (4) individuals, following the confiscation of a firearm.
Preliminary reports indicate that officers executed a search warrant at a home on Frank Edgecombe Street around 10:00 a.m., where they recovered a firearm. As a result, the four occupants, a 41-year-old male, two (2) females age 27, and a 20-year-old female were taken into custody. Investigation continues.
NORTHERN BAHAMAS
GRAND BAHAMA: POLICE INVESTIGATE SEXUAL ASSAULT
Police in Grand Bahama are questioning two (2) men in connection with an alleged sexual assault on a woman on Sunday, 19th January 2025.
Preliminary reports indicate that shortly before 4:00 a.m., the victim was asleep at an inn on Kings Road when a male known to her woke her and sexually assaulted her before robbing her at knifepoint.
In response, Officers executed a search warrant at a room in the inn, resulting in the arrest of two men, ages 26 and 24 who are currently assisting with the investigation.
GRAND BAHAMA: POLICE INVESTIGATE STRUCTURAL FIRE
Police in Grand Bahama are investigating a structural fire incident that occurred on Sunday, 19th January, 2025.
Initial reports indicate that sometime around 2:15 p.m., Fire Services responded to a building engulfed in flames on Deadman’s Reef. Upon arrival, they quickly extinguished the blaze but there were extensive damages to the building. No injuries were reported, and the fire is suspected to have been deliberately ignited. Officers are following significant leads into this matter as investigation continues.
