NEW PROVIDENCE
WEAPONS AND AMMUNITION SEIZED BY POLICE
In three separate incidents, police confiscated firearms and ammunition, two of which resulted in multiple arrests.
The first incident occurred on Monday, 13th January 2025, around 9:40 p.m. Preliminary reports indicate that officers from Operation Ceasefire executed a search warrant at a home on St. Vincent Road, off Baillou Hill Road. They discovered a high-powered weapon containing ammunition, a loaded firearm, firearm components, and ammunition. Four occupants – an 86-year-old woman, a 51-year-old woman, a 24-year-old man, and a 20-year-old man were taken into custody in reference to this discovery.
The second incident occurred on 13th January 2025, shortly after 11:30 p.m. According to initial reports, Northeastern Division officers, while acting on information, confiscated a quantity of ammunition found in a bushy area on Sutton Street, off Kemp Road. No arrests were made.
The final incident occurred on Tuesday, 14th January 2025, around 2:30 a.m. Initial reports indicate that Mobile Division Officers were on patrol when they observed a suspicious grey jeep on West Bay Street. The suspects in the jeep sped off at a high speed to evade police. During the pursuit, an object was thrown from the vehicle while in the area of Maura Lane and Marcus Bethel Way, later identified as a firearm. The chase concluded on Hay Street, off Market Street, and the three male occupants, aged 24, 23, and 22, were taken into custody and is assisting police with the investigation.
EASTERN DIVISION OFFICERS SEIZED A FIREARM
On Tuesday, 14th January, 2025, police from the Eastern Division confiscated a firearm at a residence off Joe Farrington Road.
According to initial reports, officers executed a search warrant at a home on Smith Cove. During the search, a loaded firearm was discovered, resulting in the 31-year-old male suspect, who was already in custody for another offence, being further cautioned reference to this discovery. Investigation continues.
POLICE INVESTIGATE ALLEGED SUICIDE
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the suspected suicide of a 64-year-old man on Tuesday, 14th January 2025.
Preliminary reports indicate that around 4:00 p.m., officers responded to a residence on Jennie Street, off Robinson Road where they discovered the male unresponsive with a cloth object tied around his neck and attached to the ceiling.
Emergency Medical Services attended the scene but found no vital signs of life. His Majesty’s Coroner also visited the scene. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the exact cause and time of death. Investigation continues.

EXUMA: POLICE INVESTIGATE DROWNING
Police in Exuma are investigating an alleged drowning near Jolly Hall Beach involving a 34-year- old male resident.
Police were informed of the incident on Monday, 13th January, 2025, after 11:00 a.m. According to preliminary reports, an unresponsive male was found floating in waters near the beach. He was retrieved and later examined by the local doctor who pronounced him deceased.
There were no visible signs of foul play, however, an autopsy is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death, as investigation continues.
BERRY ISLANDS: POLICE INVESTIGATE DROWNING
Police in the Berry Islands are investigating an alleged drowning that occurred in waters between Bimini and the Berry Islands.
On Monday, 13th January 2025, around 2:30 p.m., a Royal Bahamas Defense Force (R.B.D.F.) vessel responded to a distress call near Mackie Shoal. The R.B.D.F. crew engaged with a vessel that rescued a 28-year-old male found adrift and in distress near a jet ski. The R.B.D.F. vessel later took possession of an unresponsive male recovered by a second vessel.
Both individuals, identified as visitors, were transported to a local clinic on Berry Island. The 28- year-old male received medical treatment, while the second male was pronounced dead by the local doctor.
Preliminary reports indicate that the two men left Nassau on a jet ski on Saturday, 11th January 2025, for a fishing trip in Bimini. The jet ski reportedly took on water near Andros, forcing them to use it as a raft.
There are no visible signs of foul play, but an autopsy is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death as the investigation continues.
