NEW PROVIDENCE

POLICE INVESTIGATE ARMED ROBBERY

Police are investigating an armed robbery that reportedly occurred on Monday, 6th January 2025,on McKinney Drive, off Carmichael Road.

According to preliminary reports, sometime after 1:00 a.m., the victim was standing on McKinney Drive when a black Japanese-model car approached and stopped nearby. Three (3) unknown males, all armed with firearms, exited the vehicle. They robbed the victim of his personal belongings before stealing his rented maroon Nissan Note L/P #SD9947. Two of the suspects fled in the stolen vehicle, while the third returned to the black vehicle. Both vehicles were last seen heading south on McKinney Drive.

STRUCTURAL FIRE LEAVES WOMAN INJURED

An investigation is underway into a structural fire that occurred on Monday, 6th January 2025, which left a woman hospitalized.

According to initial reports, sometime before 4:00 a.m., the 31-year-old woman was alone in a residence on West End Avenue, off Baillou Hill Road, and awoke to find herself being burned. She managed to escape the house, only to discover it engulfed in flames. Fire Services responded and extinguished the blaze.

The victim sustained burns and was transported to the hospital by ambulance. Her condition is unknown at this time. Investigation continues.

MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED IN DISPUTE

A 45-year-old man sustained severe injuries during an altercation in Flamingo Gardens on Saturday, 4th January 2025, after 10:00 p.m.

Preliminary reports indicate that the victim was involved in a dispute with another man at a home on Doubloon Drive. The conflict escalated, resulting in the suspect throwing hot liquid at the victim and striking him with a blunt object.

The victim suffered severe facial and head injuries and was taken to the hospital, where he received medical treatment. His injuries are listed as serious. Investigation continues.

TWO FIREARMS CONFISCATED IN SEPARATE MATTERS

In two (2) separate incidents, law enforcement officers confiscated firearms, one of which resulted in an arrest.

The first incident occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, 5th January 2025, outside a bar on Cowpen Road. Initial reports indicate that Mobile Division officers, acting on information, conducted a search of a male in the parking lot. A loaded firearm was found, leading to the arrest of the 42-year- old man.

The second incident occurred in Flamingo Gardens on Monday, 6th January 2025, around 1:15 a.m. Preliminary reports indicate that a joint operation team, acting on information, searched an abandoned vehicle and discovered a firearm loaded with ammunition. The weapon was confiscated, but no arrests were made.

The joint operations include police officers, defense force officers and officers from the Department of Immigration.

STOLEN VEHICLE ALERT

Police seek the public’s assistance in locating the following vehicle that was reported stolen on Sunday, 5th January 2025: 1. A burgundy 2013 Nissan Juke L/P #AQ4138 – stolen from West Bay Street. If you have any information about this theft or spot this vehicle, please contact 911, 919, the nearest police station or the Criminal

Investigation Department @ 502-9991. Furthermore, anonymous tips are encouraged and can be submitted to CRIME STOPPERS @ 328-TIPS (8477).

ADVISORY: ROAD CLOSURE FOR THE OPENING OF THE LEGAL YEAR 2025

The Royal Bahamas Police Force’s Traffic Division wishes to advise the General Public that road closures will be in effect on Wednesday, 08th January, 2025, to commemorate the official ceremony for the Opening of the Legal Year at Christ Church Cathedral, George Street, at 10:00 a.m.

ROAD CLOSURE

From 9:30 a.m. until the conclusion of the ceremony, the following streets will be closed to vehicular traffic:

  • Bay Street, between Navy Lyon Road and East Street

TRAFFIC DIVERSION

Vehicles traveling on Navy Lyon Road will be directed northbound to Woodes Rodgers Wharf to East Street north, then east onto Bay Street.

Vehicles traveling on Frederick and Charlotte Streets will be halted when necessary.

NO PARKING:

Starting from 12:00 a.m. on Wednesday, 08th January, 2025, until the conclusion of the ceremony no vehicles will be permitted to park on the following streets:

  • Bay Street, between Navy Lyon Road and East Street
  • George Street, between Bay Street and Duke Street
  • Charlotte Street, between Shirley Street and Bay Street
  • Parliament Street, between East Hill Street and Bay Street
  • Bank Lane – Reserved Parking

NORTHERN BAHAMAS

ADVISORY: ROAD CLOSURE FOR THE OPENING OF THE LEGAL YEAR 2025

The Royal Bahamas Police Force’s Traffic Division in Grand Bahama wishes to advise the General Public that road closures will be in effect on Thursday, 9th January, 2025, to commemorate the official ceremony for the Opening of the Legal Year.

ROAD CLOSURE

From 9:00 a.m. until the conclusion of the ceremony, the following streets will be closed to vehicular traffic:

  • Intersection of East Mall Drive and Settlers Way, heading southbound to East Pioneers Way
  • Intersection of East Pioneers Way and East Mall Drive, heading eastbound to East Atlantic Drive ending at Christ the King Church
