NEW PROVIDENCE

POLICE INVESTIGATE DROWNING INCIDENT

Police are looking into the circumstances surrounding an alleged drowning incident that has claimed the life of an adult male.

Initial reports indicate that shortly before 7:00 p.m. on Friday 2nd February, 2024, the victim was fishing at the rear of Arawak Cay on a barge when he reportedly fell into the water and became trapped between the sea wall and the barge.

Crew members on a nearby vessel utilizing the assistance of a crane was able to steady the barge and retrieve the victim out of the water.

Emergency medical technicians responded, examined the victim and determined that he showed no vital signs of life. Investigation continues.

POLICE INVESTIGATE SHOOTING INCIDENT

Police are questioning a 22-year-old male in connection with a shooting incident that occurred around 4:00 p.m. on Friday 2nd February, 2024, in the area of a business establishment off Marathon Road

Preliminary reports indicate that the occupants of a small Japanese model vehicle discharged multiple gunshots into a gray Honda vehicle, resulting in the 24-year-old male driver being shot in the upper torso. The driver reportedly lost control of his vehicle and collided with a white vehicle driven by a 52 year old male, which subsequently, crashed into a motorcycle which was being operated by a 17 year old male.

The 52-year-old male and the 17-year-old male sustained lower extremity injuries and were also transported by EMS to the hospital, where the 52 year old was treated and discharged.

The 24-year-old driver was also treated and discharged. Police investigations are ongoing.

POLICE SEEK ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECTS

Police are searching for two armed male suspects who reportedly robbed a male of his 2014 Silver Suzuki Swift (l/p# unknown), shortly before midnight on Friday 2nd February, 2024, in the Stapledon Gardens area.

Initial reports indicate that the victim while at a stop in the vicinity of Christie and McKinney Avenue was approached by two males on foot. It is reported that one of the males opened the victim’s vehicle door, produced a handgun and demanded him out of the vehicle. The victim complied and both suspects fled in his vehicle, heading north towards J.F.K. Drive, making good on their escape.

If this vehicle is seen, members of the public are asked to contact police at 919/911, the Criminal Investigations Department at 502-9991/2/3, Crime Stoppers at 328-TIPS or visit the nearest Police Station.

POLICE SEIZE FIREARMS & DANGEROUS DRUGS SUSPECTS ARRESTED

Six adults were taken into custody after police seized two (2) weapons with ammunition and a quantity of dangerous drugs on Saturday 03rd February, 2024, in two separate incidents.

In the first incident, officers attached to Operation Cease Fire including officers from the Royal Bahamas Defence Force confiscated a loaded firearm and arrested three (3) adult males around 1:00 p.m.

Preliminary reports indicate that the officers while on Tonique Williams-Darling Highway conducted a routine vehicle stop-and-search of a red Suzuki Swift, where they discovered a firearm containing ammunition inside the vehicle, resulting in the arrest of three male occupants, ages 37, 31, and 19.

In the second incident, around 2:30 p.m., officers from the Southwestern Division, with the assistance of the Canine Unit, confiscated a firearm along with a quantity of suspected marijuana, leading to the arrest of two adult males aged 41 and 23 and one adult female aged 21.

Preliminary reports indicated that the officers executed a search warrant at a property located on Montgomery Avenue. After conducting a comprehensive check of the property's exterior, the officers uncovered the items, resulting in the arrest of the individuals residing in the home.

Active investigations are ongoing into both of these matters.

ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT APPREHENDED BY POLICE

A 21-year-old male is in police custody following an armed robbery incident on Saturday 03rdJanuary 2024.

Initial reports indicate that officers from the Traffic Division, while on routine mobile patrol, received information of an armed robbery in progress on Meeting Street. Quick response by the officers along with the assistance of the K-9 Unit, resulted in the suspect being arrested on Market Street and the stolen items (cellphones) along with a knife, believed to be the weapon used during the commission of the offense, recovered.

Investigations continue.

POLICE INVESTIGATE LATEST HOMICIDE

A brazen daylight shooting incident that occurred in St. Andrews Beach Estates on Saturday 03rd February, 2024, after 11:00 a.m. has claimed the life of an adult male believed to be in his early thirties.

Initial reports indicate that the victim was inside his vehicle, a black Honda Pilot, when a dark- colored Japanese model vehicle stopped nearby. It is reported that the occupants, all of whom were armed with high-powered weapons, opened fire on the victim’s vehicle before fleeing the area, traveling north towards Yamacraw Hill Road.

As a result, the victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his body. EMS personnel responded to the scene, examined the victim, and determined that he showed no vital signs of life.

The deceased was known to the police and was being electronically monitored for firearm possession.

GRAND BAHAMA: OPERATION YIELDS POSITIVE RESULTS

The Royal Bahamas Police Force in its relentless effort to minimize and prevent the occurrence of criminal activity in Grand Bahamas conducted operation “Falcon Claw “on Friday 02nd February, 2024, between the hours of 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The operation targeted prolific offenders, criminal hotspots, and motorists who failed to adhere to traffic laws and regulations. As a result, seventeen (17) individuals were arrested for various criminal offenses, including possession of dangerous drugs, breach of bail, and outstanding warrants, and nineteen (19) traffic citations were issued. In addition, multiple search warrants were executed at various locations, leading to the discovery of suspected marijuana and cocaine and the seizure of cash believed to be the proceeds of crime.

The estimated weight and street value of the suspected dangerous drugs are currently unknown.

The public is encouraged to abide by all laws governing the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, as failure to do so, will result in persons’ being placed before The Magistrate’s Court.
