NEW PROVIDENCE
POLICE ARREST AND CHARGE BAIL VIOLATORS
Officers from the Electronic Monitoring Unit assisted in the arrest of eleven (11) adult males between the ages of 17 and 29, for serious offenses including murder, armed robbery, organized crime, possession of dangerous drugs, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and violation of bail conditions between January 22nd and January 28th, 2024.
The Electronic Monitoring Unit has formally charged one (1) of these individuals with Breach of Bail during this time period.
POLICE INVESTIGATE SEXUAL ASSAULTS
Police are investigating two (2) separate complaints of sexual assault involving two (2) female visitors that occurred on Paradise Island.
The first incident occurred on Saturday 27th January, 2024, on Casino Drive around 2:30 a.m.
Initial reports indicate that a 30-year-old Mexican woman was walking when an unknown male, armed with a knife, approached her. It is reported that the culprit forced her into his vehicle and sexually assaulted her.
The second incident occurred at a resort on Sunday 28th January, 2024, around 10:30 p.m. and involved an 81 year old Canadian female.
Police are questioning a 61-year-old male resident from Canada in connection with this incident.
Investigations continue.
NORTHERN BAHAMAS
GRAND BAHAMA: ARRAIGNMENT Police in Grand Bahama wishes to inform the General Public that on Monday 29th January, 2024, the following individuals will be placed before Freeport’s Magistrate Court:
- 1. A juvenile male for two (2) counts of Possession of a Firearm with intent by means thereof to Endanger Life. This is in connection to an incident reported on Wednesday 24th January, 2024.
- 2. A 40-year-old male for two (2) counts of Attempted Murder.
This is in connection to the attempted murder of two (2) adult males that occurred in Abaco on Monday 22nd January, 2024.
GRAND BAHAMA: POLICE INVESTIGATE INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENT
A 25-year-old male remains hospitalized as a result of an industrial accident that occurred shortly before 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, 28th January, 2024 at the Grand Bahama Shipyard.
According to preliminary reports, the worker became trapped between a crane and pieces of steel, resulting in injuries to his upper body. He was transported to the hospital by emergency medical services for further medical care.
Investigations are ongoing.
ABACO: SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR DANGEROUS DRUGS
Police in Abaco arrested a 22-year-old male on Sunday 28th January, 2024, after confiscating a quantity of suspected drugs.
According to preliminary reports, around 10:00 a.m., the officers performed a standard stop-andsearch of a vehicle on S.C. Bootle Highway. During the search, they discovered a quantity of suspected marijuana in the vehicle, leading to the apprehension of the sole male occupant.
The estimated weight and street value of the suspected drugs are currently unknown.
Investigations continue.
