POLICE SEEK HELP IN LOCATING DRIVER RESPONSIBLE FOR HIT & RUN

Police are requesting assistance from the public in identifying the driver involved in the fatal accident that resulted in the death of a 55-year-old male pedestrian, identified as Doyle Russell, on Wednesday, September 25, 2024.

Following initial investigations, traffic officers have established that Russell, who seemed to be lying in the eastbound lane on Madeira Street was struck by a red vehicle believed to be a Ford Mustang traveling east along the same corridor, with the driver failing to remain stationary.

Police are appealing to members of the public who may have knowledge of this fatal hit and run accident to contact the Traffic Division at 397-8050, 393-7713, or visit the nearest police station.

THREE ADULTS ARRESTED IN HUMAN SMUGGLING OPERATION

On Friday, September 27, 2024, a group of illegal immigrants was discovered aboard a vessel in the vicinity of Bay Street. As a result, three Bahamian adults, two males and one female, were apprehended by the police.

Initial reports indicate that around 11:00 p.m. officers from Operation Ceasefire, acting on information, arrived at a shipping yard on Bay Street, where they observed the occupants of a white Nissan Juke transporting persons to a vessel moored at the shipyard. This prompted the officers to search a nearby white vessel, where they discovered forty-five (45) undocumented Haitian nationals onboard, leading to the arrest of a 48-year-old female and two males aged 29 and 50 for human smuggling.

The illegal immigrants, comprising of thirty-two (32) males and thirteen (13) females, were detained and subsequently handed over to officers from the Bahamas Department of Immigration.

POLICE INVESTIGATES LATEST HOMICIDE

Police are currently investigating a fatal shooting incident that claimed the life of an adult male on Saturday, September 28, 2024.

Preliminary reports indicate that around 7:00 a.m., officers, upon arriving at an unfinished residential structure in the Kennedy Subdivision community, discovered an unresponsive male on the rooftop, exhibiting an injury consistent with a gunshot wound.

Emergency Medical Services personnel visited the scene and examined the male, but they were unable to detect any vital signs of life.
