NEW PROVIDENCE

SUSPECTS ARRESTED & CRIMINALLY CHARGED FOR MAJOR OFFENCES FOR THE PERIOD: 5th AUGUST, 2024 – 11TH AUGUST, 2024

The Royal Bahamas Police Force's zero-tolerance initiatives have led to the arrest of several individuals who were criminally charged by the Criminal Investigation Department and the Anti- Gang & Firearms Task Force Unit.

In the week under review, thirteen (13) individuals will appear before the Magistrate Court on Monday, August 12, 2024 for several major offences. In particular, two adult males and one adult female were charged with the following offences related to the Homicide of Elvardo Thompson's on Saturday, 20th July, 2024, on Pinecrest Drive.

  • A 29-year-old male from Mermaid Boulevard has been charged with Murder, Conspiracy to Commit Murder, and Possession of a Firearm with the Intent to Endanger Life.
  • A 21-year-old female Department of Corrections officer has been charged with two (2) counts of Conspiracy to Commit Murder.
  • A 34-year-old male from Avocado Street, Pinewood Gardens has been charged with Accessory after the fact.<

The remaining individuals faced charges for various offences, such as Armed Robbery, Indecent, Assault, Fraud by False Pretenses, Stealing & Receiving Stolen Property, Burglary and House Breaking.

The Anti-Gang & Firearms Investigation Task Force Unit successfully seized seven (7) firearms and over forty-five (45) rounds of ammunition, resulting in the arrest of six (6) individuals from New Providence, Grand Bahama, and Abaco, whose arraignment is also scheduled for Monday, August 12, 2024.

OPERATIONS YIELDED POSITIVE RESULTS

During island-wide operations for the aforementioned period, the combined efforts of officers from Operation Ceasefire, Secure City 2.0, and Mobile Division resulted in profile checks of over eleven hundred motorists. This led to the arrest of forty-two (42) individuals for various criminal offences, including the Possession of Firearms and Ammunition, The Possession of Dangerous Drugs, Causing Harm, and Outstanding Warrants of Arrest. Moreover, one hundred forty-one (141) traffic enforcement citations were issued to motorists who failed to adhere with the traffic laws and regulations.

ARRAIGNMENT

Monday, August 12, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., the Criminal Investigation Department will place an adult male before the Freeport Magistrate Court for the following:

  • Two (2) counts of Murder
  • Three (3) counts of Possession of a Firearm with Intent to Endanger Life,
  • One (1) count of Causing Public Terror,
  • One (1) count of Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm,
  • One (1) count Possession of Ammunition,
  • One (1) count of Possession of a Firearm Whilst Committing an Indictable Offence,
  • One (1) count of Causing Damage
  • One (1) count of Violation of Bail.

This is in connection with the shooting incident that occurred on Wednesday August 7, 2024 which claimed the lives of two adult males.

The police would like to encourage the public to contact their nearest police station to provide information regarding suspected criminal activity in their communities, as the Royal Bahamas Police Force remains committed to its ongoing efforts to reduce crime and create safer communities.

NEW PROVIDENCE

STOLEN VEHICLES RECOVERED

Two (2) vehicles were successfully recovered by the police on Sunday, August 11, 2024. One of the vehicles, a white 2013 Nissan Cube L/P #AK3280, was discovered in the Gamble Heights area, off Baillou Hill Road, after it was reported stolen from the University Drive area. A white Nissan Juke L/P #AW5917 was recovered in the Dreamer's Close area of East Park Estates after it was reported stolen on August 4, 2024.

STOLEN VEHICLE ALERT

Police seek the public’s assistance in finding the following vehicles that were reported stolen on Sunday 11th August, 2024:

  1. A black 2024 KIA Sportage L/P #AC0823 – stolen from Edelweiss Avenue, Garden Hills #3.
  2. A burgundy 2012 Nissan Cube L/P #AV4633-stolen from Caribbean Close

    FAMILY ISLANDS

    LONG ISLAND: MALE BODY FOUND AT DEAN’S BLUE HOLE

    The body of an adult male resident who reportedly drowned at the Dean's Blue Hole on Saturday 10th August, 2024, was discovered around 5:45 p.m. this afternoon (Monday, 12th August, 2024).

    The police, along with members from the Royal Bahamas Defence Force utilized an unmanned submersible drone to conduct a systematic search of Dean's Blue Hole, which revealed that the body of the male was discovered at a depth of 600 feet below sea level.

    Currently, the police are in direct communication with the family and deep water specialists (technical divers) to strategize a plan for bringing the male's remains to the surface without compromising the divers' safety.

    Further updates will be provided upon the conclusion of the recovery efforts.
