NEW PROVIDENCE

POLICE RECOVER STOLEN VEHICLES; TWO MEN ARRESTED

In separate incidents, police recovered two stolen vehicles, one of which led to the apprehension of two adult males.

In the first incident, officers recovered a black Ford Explorer on Harmony Hill Road off Village Road on Tuesday, August 6, 2024. It was reported stolen on June 7, 2024. This incident resulted in no arrests.

In the final incident, around 2:00 a.m., on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, police were alerted that a burgundy Nissan Cube L/P #AM6364 was stolen from Sandilands Village Road off Fox Hill Road.

Nearby responding and patrolling units noticed the stolen vehicle, followed by a second vehicle traveling at a high rate, and attempted to intercept them. This led to a police pursuit that ended on Robinson Road, with the arrest of a 34-year-old male, the driver of the stolen vehicle, and a 35- year-old male, the driver of the second vehicle, as well as the recovery of the stolen vehicle.

Investigations are ongoing into this matter.

NORTHERN BAHAMAS

GRAND BAHAMA: TWO MALES CRITICALLY INJURED AFTER SHOOTING

An investigation is underway in Grand Bahama following a shooting incident that occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, August 07, 2024, resulting in two men sustaining critical injuries.

Preliminary reports indicate that around 1:00 a.m., police were alerted to reports of two (2) males being shot multiple times outside a nightclub on East Sunrise Highway. Upon arrival at the scene, responding officers confirmed the discovery of two men suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to their upper body; EMS personnel subsequently transported them to the hospital for medical attention, where they remain listed in critical condition.

The circumstances surrounding this incident are currently unknown. Police are actively investigating and will provide updates as more information becomes available.

UPDATE: INVESTIGATION OF CHIEF SUPERINTENDENT MICHAEL JOHNSON

Nassau Bahamas- As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability within the Royal Bahamas Police Force, we are providing an update on the investigation into allegations concerning Chief Superintendent Michael Johnson.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force has taken significant steps to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation into these serious allegations. In cooperation with our international partners, we have forwarded files in relations to the case to the UK National Crime Agency (NCA) to aid in the investigation.

We are pleased to confirm the involvement of senior NCA officials in this matter, John Michael McKeon, Head of the NCA’s Anti-Corruption Unit, and Andrew John Black, a senior investigator, will be arriving in The Bahamas from the UK on August 14, 2024, to personally oversee aspects of this investigation. They are scheduled to depart on August 17, 2024. Additionally, Francisco Savvaki Kyriarou, an investigator based in the NCA’s Miami office, will join the team and is scheduled to arrive and depart on the same dates.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force is fully cooperating with these international experts to ensure that all facets of the investigation are covered comprehensively. This collaboration underscores our resolve to address these allegations with the utmost seriousness and diligence.

We will continue to keep the public informed as the investigation progresses, consistent with our duty to uphold the integrity of our institution and the trust placed in us by the people of The Bahamas.

NORTHERN BAHAMAS

GRAND BAHAMA: UPDATE- ONE MALE SUCCUMBS AFTER SHOOTING

One male that was hospitalized in critical condition has succumbed to his injuries, while the other remains gravely ill following a shooting incident that occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, August 7, 2024.

Police received reports of two (2) males being shot multiple times outside a nightclub on East Sunrise Highway around 1:00 a.m. Upon arrival at the location, responding officers confirmed the discovery of two men suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to their bodies. EMS personnel subsequently transported them to the hospital for medical attention, where they remain listed in critical condition, but one of them died shortly after 9:00 a.m. today.

Preliminary investigations reveal that an unknown male entered the nightclub as it was about to close, produced a firearm, and fired several gunshots, resulting in both men being shot multiple times.

Police successfully arrested an adult male in connection with this incident and confiscated a firearm believed to be used during the commission of the offence. This matter is under active investigation.

ABACO: JUVENILE GIRL INJURED OFF GRAND CAY

An incident at sea near Grand Cay, Abaco on Wednesday August 7, 2024, has left an American juvenile female injured.

Police in Abaco received reports that shortly before 2:00 p.m. the 8-year-old victim was swimming when she was bitten on the right hand, presumably by a shark.

The victim was brought to shore and taken to the hospital for medical treatment. Her injury is listed as serious. She and her family are expected to return to the United States today, where she will receive additional medical care.
