NEW PROVIDENCE

ADVISORY ROAD CLOSURES REF: ANNUAL JUNIOR JUNKANOO PARADE

The Royal Bahamas Police Force wishes to inform the General Public of temporary road closures on Thursday 25th January, 2024 between the hours of 4:00 p.m. to 12: 00 a.m. to facilitate the “Annual Junior Junkanoo Parade”.

ROUTE:

FREDERICK STREET TO BAY STREET, EAST ALONG BAY STREET TO ELIZABETH AVENUE, SOUTH ALONG ELIZABETH AVENUE TO SHIRLEY STREET, WEST ALONG SHIRLEY STREET TO FREDERICK STREET

CLOSURE OF STREETS:

The Public is hereby advised that beginning at 4:00 p.m. until after the parade is completed the following streets on BOTH SIDES will be closed to vehicular traffic.

  • BAY STREET BETWEEN NAVY LYON ROAD AND ELIZABETH AVENUE
  • PARLIAMENT STREET BETWEEN EAST HILL AND BAY STREETS
  • FREDERICK STREET BETWEEN EAST HILL AND BAY STREETS
  • CHARLOTTE STREET BETWEEN WOODES RODGERS WHARF AND SHIRLEY STREET
  • EAST STREET BETWEEN SHIRLEY AND BAY STREETS
NO PARKING :

NO vehicles will be permitted to park on the following streets from 4:00 p.m. until the parade is over.

  • SHIRLEY STREET BETWEEN FREDERICK STREET AND COLLINS AVENUE
  • FREDERICK STREET BETWEEN SHIRLEY STREET AND WOODES RODGERS WHARF

  • PARLIAMENT STREET BETWEEN WOODES RODGERS WHARF AND EAST HILL STREET

    DIVERSION OF TRAFFIC:

    Vehicular traffic traveling west bound on Shirley Street will be diverted south onto Collins Avenue, Vehicular traffic travelling north bound on Baillou Hill Road will be diverted west on Marlborough Street. Vehicular traffic traveling north bound on Nassau Street will be diverted west along West Bay Street.

    Persons working in the Down Town area will be permitted to leave through the parade route from their place of employment.

    The Royal Bahamas Police Force apologizes for any inconvenience caused.

    POLICE CONFISCATE HIGH-POWERED WEAPON

    Officers from Bain Town Urban Renewal confiscated a firearm on Tuesday 23rd January, 2024, in the vicinity of Augusta Street.

    Initial reports indicate that the officers, acting on information, conducted a search of a building around 10:45 a.m. During the search, a high-powered firearm, containing no ammunition, was found and seized.

    There was no arrest made in connection to this discovery. Investigations are ongoing into this matter.

    SAN SALVADOR

    POLICE CONFISCATE SUSPECTED COCAINE ** Police in San Salvador have seized 2.2 kilograms of suspected cocaine, worth an estimated $30,000.00, on Tuesday 23rd January, 2024.

    Initial reports revealed that shortly before 10:00 a.m., officers acting on intelligence seized the dangerous drugs which was discovered near Fortune Hill Beach.

    No arrest was made in connection with this incident. Investigations continue into this matter.

    NEW PROVIDENCE

    POLICE INVESTIGATE ARMED ROBBERY

    Police are in search of two male suspects who reportedly robbed another male of his motorcycle, a white 2023 Yamaha XTZ 125 L/P #1386, while at a residence off Carmichael Road.

    The incident occurred shortly after 4:00 p.m. on Monday 22nd January, 2024.

    Preliminary reports indicate that two male occupants of a white Japanese vehicle came to the victim’s residence situated on Guadeloupe Street. It is reported that one of the males expressed interest in purchasing the victim’s motorcycle; however, during their conversation, a second male exited from the vehicle, produced a firearm, and robbed the victim of his motorcycle.

    The first male returned to the vehicle followed by his accomplice on the motorcycle and they both fled in an easterly towards Carmichael Road making good on their escape.

    Police are appealing to members of the public to be on the lookout the stolen motorcycle. If you have any information about this armed robbery, please contact 911,919, or the Criminal Investigation Department @ 502-9991. Anonymous tips are also welcomed through CRIME STOPPERS @ 328-TIPS (8477).

    NORTHERN BAHAMAS

    ABACO:POLICE INVESTIGATE DOUBLE SHOOTING INCIDENT

    Police on the island of Abaco are actively investigating a shooting incident within the Cooper’s Town community that injured two adult males shortly before 9: 00 p.m. on Monday 22nd January, 2024.

    According to initial reports, the victims were seated outside a residence in Seven Hills, Coopers Town when a white Japanese vehicle approached. One male exited the vehicle, brandished a firearm, and fired shots in their direction, injuring one of them in the left arm and the other in the left leg. The gunman then fled in the vehicle heading south on Coopers Town Road, making good on his escape.

    The victims were transported to the Coopers Town Clinic where they were examined by the local doctor who determined their injuries were serious. They were subsequently airlifted to New Providence for additional medical care.

    Investigations are ongoing into this incident.

    FAMILY ISLANDS

    ELEUTHERA POLICE CONDUCT ROAD CHECKS

    Officers on the island of Eleuthera performed strategic road checks on Queen’s Highway, Governor’s Harbour on Monday 22nd January, 2024, between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

    As a result of this initiative, officers inspected a total of ninety (90) vehicles, issued seventeen (17) traffic citations to motorists for traffic violations, and arrested one (1) adult male for immigration purposes, subsequently handing him over to the Bahamas Department of Immigration.

    The public is encouraged to abide by all laws governing the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, as failure to do so will result in persons being placed before the Magistrate’s Court.
