NEW PROVIDENCE

INVESTIGATIONS UNDERWAY INTO ARMED ROBBERIES

Police are investigating two (2) alleged armed robbery incidents that took place in the capital.

The first incident occurred shortly before 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 01, 2024, in the vicinity on Portland Boulevard in Winton Meadows

Preliminary reports indicate that the victims were at a park when two (2) unknown male occupants of a blue Japanese vehicle approached them. It is reported that one of the suspects brandished a firearm and robbed both men, one of a large quantity of cash and the other of his personal belongings, before fleeing the immediate area in the blue vehicle. The second incident occurred after 1:00 a.m. on Gibbs Corner off East Street on Friday, August 02, 2024.

According to initial reports, two (2) unknown males, one of whom produced a firearm, confronted the victim while he was using a footpath off Gibbs Corner. The suspects reportedly held the victim at bay, robbed him of his personal belongings, and then fled the area on foot, making good on their escape.

TWO MEN ARRESTED IN DRUG SEIZURE

Police seized a quantity of suspected dangerous drugs and apprehended two adult males on Meadow Street on Friday, August 02, 2024.

According to initial reports, officers, acting on information, executed a search warrant at a home on Hospital Lane around 1:00 a.m., where during the search, a large quantity of suspected marijuana was found, resulting in the arrests of both male occupants, aged 41 and 38.

The suspected marijuana's estimated weight and street value are currently unknown.

Investigations continue.

POLICE INVESTIGATE SEXUAL ASSAULT

Police are investigating an alleged sexual assault incident that happened on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, around 11:00 p.m.

According to preliminary reports, the victim, a Bahamian woman, was at a resort on West Bay Street when an adult male known to her allegedly sexually assaulted her.

Police are following significant leads regarding this incident.

STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERED

The following vehicles were recovered on Thursday, August 01, 2024:

  1. A blue Suzuki Swift L/P #AM5132 – recovered on Baillou Hill Road. It was stolen during an armed robbery on Tuesday 30th July, 2024.
  2. A black Chevrolet Equinox L/P# AU9948- recovered on Vinspen Road off St. Vincent Road. It was stolen during an armed robbery on Thursday 01st August, 2024.
  3. A black & white Yamaha XTC motorcycle- recovered on Peach Street. It was stolen during an armed robbery.

These are ongoing investigations being conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department.

NORTHERN BAHAMAS

ABACO: POLICE CONFISCATE SUSPECTED DRUGS

Police in Abaco seized a large quantity of suspected marijuana on Thursday, August 01, 2024, in Dundas Town.

According to reports around 11:00 a.m., officers, acting on information, searched a derelict building near Godfrey Williams Avenue and George Albury Boulevard, where they discovered a large quantity of suspected marijuana. This incident resulted in no arrest.

The estimated weight of the suspected marijuana is 3.5 pounds, and its estimated street value is $4,500.00.

Investigations continue.

FAMILY ISLANDS

BERRY ISLAND: POLICE INVESTIGATE TRAFFIC FATALITY

Police on Berry Island have launched an investigation into a fatal crash that claimed the life of a female motorcyclist on Thursday, August 1, 2024.

Initial reports indicate that around 6:30 p.m., a female operator of a black motorcycle was in the vicinity of the local public school on William Dean Senior Highway, Bullock's Harbour, when she collided with a black Mitsubishi EK Wagon driven by a female driver along with two passengers; they reported no injuries.

On impact, the female cyclist was thrown from the motorcycle, resulting in serious injuries. A local doctor on the island administered CPR on scene and subsequently transported her to a nearby clinic, but she succumbed to her injuries.

Investigations continues.
