NEW PROVIDENCE

ARMED ROBBERY INVESTIGATIONS UNDERWAY

Police are investigating two (2) separate alleged armed robbery incidents that occurred in the capital, one of which led to an arrest and firearm seizure.

The first incident happened around 11:00 p.m. off Carmichael Road on Wednesday July 31, 2024.

Initial reports indicate that two (2) unknown gunmen confronted and robbed the victim of a black Chevrolet Equinox L/P # AU9948 and personal effects on arrival at a Ramsey Street residence. Both suspects fled the scene in the stolen vehicle, followed by a white Japanese model car.

Officers from Operation Cease Fire while on St. Vincent Road attempted to intercept a white Nissan Bluebird L/P # AT0265, which matched the description of the vehicle believed to be involved in the armed robbery; however, the driver refused to stop, leading to a brief pursuit that ended on Sisal Road when the vehicle crashed into a wall of a residence.

Officers then arrested the lone occupant, a 17-year-old male, and seized an unlicensed firearm found in his possession. Further inspection of the vehicle revealed that it had been reported stolen on Friday, 26th July, 2024.

The second incident took place around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 01, 2024, on Governor’s Close off West Bay Street.

According to initial reports, the victim was approached by two unidentified males, one of whom brandished a firearm while he was seated in his vehicle and robbed him of personal belongings. Both culprits then fled the area on foot, heading east on West Bay Street.

Police are appealing to members of the public to be on the lookout for the stolen vehicle and come forward with any information related to these matters. Please call 911 (919), the Criminal Investigation Department (502-9991), or CRIME STOPPERS (328-TIPS) (8477).

POLICE CONFISCATE FIREARM

Officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit confiscated a firearm on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, on Godet Avenue off Carmichael Avenue.

Initial reports indicate shortly after 11:00 a.m., officers, acting on information, searched a bushy area where they discovered and confiscated the firearm. The incident resulted in no arrests.

Investigations are ongoing.

POLICE INVESTIGATE SUICIDE ATTEMPT

Police launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding a 28-year-old male's attempted suicide, which occurred on Wednesday, 31st July 2024 around 7:00 p.m.

According to preliminary reports, the victim allegedly ingested a large quantity of over-the-counter medication while at a residence on Bellot Road off McKinney Drive.

He was transported to the hospital by EMS personnel for further medical attention and evaluation.

POLICE RECOVERED STOLEN VEHICLE

The following vehicles were recovered on Wednesday 31st July, 2024:

  1. A blue BYD Space E6 L/P # AW8939 – recovered on Charles Saunders Highway. It was stolen during an armed robbery on Monday 29th July, 2024, on East Bay Street.
  2. A white Nissan Bluebird (Sylphy) L/P # AT0265 – recovered on Sisal Road (see above in Armed Robbery update). It was reported stolen on Friday 26th July, 2024.

    These are ongoing investigations being conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department

    NEW PROVIDENCE

    TWO FIREARMS SEIZED BY POLICE

    Two (2) firearms were confiscated by the police in separate incidents on Thursday, August 1, 2024. One of these incidents resulted in the arrest of two adult males.

    The first incident took place around 10:00 a.m. on Williams Lane off Kemp Road. Acting on information, officers from the Tourism Policing Division searched a bushy area and seized an unlicensed firearm. This incident resulted in no arrest.

    In the second incident, Mobile Division officers conducted a routine stop-and-search of a vehicle with two male occupants at Jack Fish Drive and Carmichael Road around 10:25 a.m. Officers found a firearm with ammunition and a significant amount of suspected marijuana in the vehicle, leading to the arrest of the two 26-year-old male occupants.

    The suspected marijuana's street value and estimated weight are currently unknown.

    Investigations are ongoing.
