NEW PROVIDENCE

POLICE CONFISCATE FIREARMS & AMMUNITION

Police confiscated two (2) unlicensed firearms containing ammunition in separate incidents on Sunday, July 28, 2024.

In the first incident, officers from the Traffic Division observed a group of motorcyclists traveling west on Wulff Road shortly after 9:00 p.m., when one of them discarded an object west of Soldier Road. This resulted in a brief pursuit, but the cyclists managed to evade the officers. Subsequently, the officers returned to the area where the object was thrown; they searched a bushy area and discovered an unlicensed firearm.

In the final incident, Operation Ceasefire officers including the Royal Bahamas Defence Force arrested four (4) persons following a firearm seizure.

Preliminary reports indicate that around 11:00 p.m. officers executed a search warrant at a residence in Palm Breeze Estates, which led to the discovery of the unlicensed firearm in the home and the subsequent arrest of four occupants: three (3) males aged 42, 20, and 16, and a 42-year-old female.

The Anti-Gang & Firearm Investigation Task Force Unit will continue investigations into these incidents.

POLICE INVESTIGATE THE COUNTRY’S LATEST TRAFFIC FATALITIES

Police are investigating two separate fatal crashes that claimed the lives of two adult males on Sunday, July 28, 2024.

The first incident occurred shortly after 1:00 a.m. in the vicinity of Infant View Road off Nassau Street.

Based on preliminary reports, the 31-year-old male was operating a black Yamaha XT 125 motorcycle when he reportedly lost control and crashed into the wall of a residence on Infant View Road.

EMS personnel transported him to the hospital for medical attention, but he succumbed to his injuries around 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 28, 2024.

The final incident occurred shortly after 7:00 p.m. in the vicinity of Nelson Road and Western Road.

Preliminary reports indicate that a lone female driver of a white Honda Accord and a lone male driver of a black Suzuki Swift were traveling northbound along the Western Road corridor when the driver of the Honda Accord attempted to turn east onto Nelson Road and the driver of the Suzuki Swift attempted to overtake, resulting in a collision between both vehicles.

The driver of the Honda Accord believed to be in her early 60’s was seriously injured; she was taken to the hospital by ambulance for medical attention; however, the driver of the Suzuki Swift believed to be in his early 20’s succumbed to his injuries on scene.

Investigations are ongoing into both of these incidents.

FAMILY ISLANDS ELEUTHERA **POLICE ARREST SUSPECTS IN FIREARM SEIZURE**

Five adult males have been taken into custody by officers on the island of Eleuthera after a firearm containing ammunition was discovered at a residence on Pitt Street.

According to initial reports, around 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 28, 2024, officers from the Harbour Island Police Station executed a search warrant at the residence, leading to the discovery of the weapon and, subsequently, arresting the occupants, five adult males ages 18 to 37.

Investigations into this matter continue.

FAMILY ISLANDS ELEUTHERA

POLICE ARREST SUSPECTS IN FIREARM & DRUG SEIZURE

In less than 12 hours, police on Harbour Island arrested an adult male and female ages 21 and 51 after discovering an unlicensed firearm containing ammunition and a quantity of suspected marijuana at their residence.

Initial reports revealed that around 10:00 p.m. on Monday, July 29, 2024, officers from the Harbour Island Police Station executed a search warrant at the suspects’ residence, which led to the discovery and confiscation of the illegal items and their subsequent arrest.

Presently, the weight and value of the suspected marijuana are unknown.

Investigations into this matter continue.
