NEW PROVIDENCE

POLICE INVESTIGATE ARMED ROBBERY

Police are searching for an armed male suspect who reportedly robbed another male of his vehicle on Tuesday 09th July, 2024.

Preliminary reports suggest that around 8:00 a.m., the victim was leaving a residence off Cowpen Road when an unknown male approached, produced a firearm, and subsequently robbed the victim of his black 2014 Honda Accord before fleeing east on Cowpen Road.

WOMAN ARRESTED IN BOY’S DEATH

Police have launched an investigation into the death of an 8-year-old boy from Johnson Road on Tuesday 09th July, 2024.

Initial reports indicate that around 12:45 p.m. police received an alert about the deceased child at a residence on Kelly Lane. Upon the officers' arrival, they discovered the body of the male child in a state of decomposition.

Officers took the mother of the deceased child, who was at the residence, into custody, and she will be assisting with the investigation.

A post-mortem examination will be performed to determine the exact cause of death. Investigations continue. RBPF, PACO

TRAFFIC ADVISORY

Police wish to advise the general public that the annual Independence Cultural Show and Flag Raising Ceremony will be held at Clifford Park on Tuesday 09th July, 2024.

ROAD CLOSURE:

To facilitate the event, the Traffic Division wishes to advise that from 6:00 p.m. until the event’s conclusion, the following streets and location will be closed to vehicular traffic:

  • WEST BAY STREET, BETWEEN NASSAU STREET AND CHIPPINGHAM ROAD - BOTH SIDES
  • MARCUS BETHEL WAY, BETWEEN WEST BAY STREET AND INFANT VIEW ROAD - BOTH SIDES
  • DEANS LANE - BOTH SIDES
  • GIBBS LANE ,
  • - BOTH SIDES

In Addition, on Wednesday 10th July, 2024 at 12:00 a.m.-until, various Junkanoo groups will perform musical selections for the Bahamas 51st Independence on Bay Street from East Street to George Street.

ROAD CLOSURE:

At 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday 09th July, 2024, until 1:00 p.m., on Wednesday 10th July, 2024 no parking will permitted on the following streets which will be closed to all vehicular traffic:

  • BAY STREET, BETWEEN GEORGE STREET AND ELIZABETH AVENUE - BOTH SIDES
  • NAVY LYON ROAD - BOTH SIDES
  • WOODES ROGERS WALK - BOTH SIDES
  • CUMBERLAND STREET - BOTH SIDES
  • MARLBOROUGH STREET BETWEEN CUMBERLAND STREET AND WEST STREET BOTH SIDES

TRAFFIC DIVERSION:

All vehicular traffic will be appropriately diverted from the affected areas.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force extends their apologies for any inconvenience caused.

POLICE INVESTIGATE SHOOTING

Police are questioning a 19-year-old male in connection with a shooting incident that injured a 21- year-old male on Monday 08th July, 2024.

The incident reportedly occurred shortly before 1:00 p.m., on Cedar Way off Carmichael Road.

The victim sustained gunshot injuries to his lower extremities and was transported to the hospital in a private vehicle.

The 19-year-old suspect was subsequently taken into police custody following this incident; however, the circumstances surrounding the incident are currently unknown, but police are investigating and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
