NEW PROVIDENCE

POLICE INVESTIGATE DOUBLE SHOOTING INCIDENT

Police are investigating a shooting incident that has left a 28 year old male and a 17 year old female in hospital.

The incident reportedly occurred shortly before 8:00 p.m. on Sunday 23rd June, 2024 at a residence on Bellot Road off Carmichael Road.

Preliminary reports indicate that the victim was attending a birthday party for his son, when a male armed with a handgun, exited a small gray Japanese vehicle. It is reported that the suspect fired gunshots at the victim who attempted to seek refuge in the home. The victim was pursued into the home by the suspect and subsequently shot multiple times.

It is further reported that during the incident, a juvenile female who was inside the home was also shot. Both victims were taken to hospital via EMS personnel where at present their conditions are listed as stable.

Police are actively investigating this incident and are appealing to members of the public who may have any information that can assist in locating the suspect to contact police.

UPDATE: FEMALE SHOT @ YELLOW ELDER GARDENS

Police wish to inform the public that the 36 year old female shot in Yellow Elder Gardens on Sunday 23rd June, 2024 remains hospitalized in critical condition.

According to reports around 6:30 a.m., police were notified that the female was shot and taken to hospital via private vehicle. Police are questioning the victim’s 37 year old boyfriend in relation to this incident. Investigations continues.

WEEK-IN-REVIEW: THE ANTI-GANG & FIREARMS TASK FORCE UNIT

A zero-tolerance approach by The Royal Bahamas Police Force to remove illegal weapons and save lives has resulted in five (5) pistols, one (1) rifle, and fifty-six (56) rounds of ammunition being confiscated.

The firearms and ammunition were confiscated during the week of Monday 17th June, 2024 through Saturday 23rd June, 2024 by officers from the Anti-Gang & Firearms Task Force Unit, Operation Ceasefire, the Mobile Division in New Providence, and officers attached to the Eleuthera Division.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force remains committed to the ongoing efforts of crime reduction and creating safer communities, and encourage all residents to make their best contribution by reporting all suspicious people, vehicles and activities.

STOLEN VEHICLE ALERT

Police are requesting the public’s assistance in locating the following vehicles that were reported stolen:

  1. A blue 2015 Nissan Note L/P #AD5512 – from Boatswain Hill
  2. A brown 2013 Nissan Cube L/P #AU9253 –from Boatswain Hill
  3. A burgundy 2012 Nissan Juke L/P #AW9375 – from West Bay Street

If you have any information that can assist police in locating these vehicles or the suspects responsible for the theft, please contact 911, 919, the nearest police station or the Criminal Investigation Department @ 502-9991/2. Furthermore, anonymous tips are encouraged and can be submitted to CRIME STOPPERS @ 328-TIPS (8477).

POLICE INVESTIGATE ALLEGED DROWNING

Police on the island of New Providence are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the drowning death of a 64 year old male resident of Brea, California.

The incident reportedly occurred shortly after 11:00 a.m., on Monday 24th June 2024.

Preliminary reports revealed, the victim was on a snorkeling adventure in western New Providence when he experienced difficulty breathing and became unconscious. EMS personnel were summoned, responded and determined the victim had no signs of life.

Investigation continue into this matter.

NORTHERN BAHAMAS

BIMINI: PLANE CRASH UNDER INVESTIGATION

Investigations are being carried out by The Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority (AAIA) after a Cessna 203 aircraft on floats crashed landed in North Bimini on Sunday 23rd June, 2024.

Preliminary reports indicate that around 3:00 p.m., the aircraft left Bimini and was enroute to Ft. Lauderdale with ten (10) people onboard when the incident occurred.

There were no reported injuries or casualties during the incident. Investigations into this matter continues.

UPDATE: FEMALE IN BOATING ACCIDENT SUCCUMBS TO HER INJURIES

Police wish to inform the public that the 38 year old American female involved in the boating incident on Harbour Island has died.

The incident reportedly occurred around 2:00 p.m., on Saturday 22nd June 2024 on Harbour Island, and involved a 35 ft. Contender vessel.

Initial reports indicate that the female was swimming along with a male companion in waters off Pink Sands Beach when the incident occurred.

The victim was taken to the local clinic and later airlifted to New Providence where she succumbed to her injuries later that evening. Police investigations continue.
