NEW PROVIDENCE

ROAD CLOSURES: STATE RECOGNIZED FUNERAL- HON. ARCHIBALD LOFTUS ROKER

A State Recognized Funeral Service for the late Honorable Archibald Loftus Roker, Signatory to the Constitution, Former Cabinet Minister and Parliamentarian, will be held at Christ Church Cathedral located George Street on Friday 31st May, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.

ROUTE OF PROCESSION FROM THE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY TO CHRIST CHURCH CATHEDRAL:

At 10:00 a.m. on Friday 31st May, 2024, after the final viewing at the House of Assembly, the body will leave in a procession. The route will travel west along Bay Street to George Street. South on George Street to Christ Church Cathedral George Street.

ROUTE THE CHURCH TO THE CEMETERY:

The procession will travel north on George Street to Bay Street to Navy Lion Road west along Marlborough Street and West Bay Street, then south along Nassau Street.

On completion of the funeral service, a short Flag Presentation Ceremony will be conducted by the Royal Bahamas Police and Defence Force Officers at the Western Cemetery. The following streets will be closed to vehicular traffic:

  • CUMBERLAND STREET BETWEEN DUKE AND NAVY LION ROAD - BOTH SIDES
  • MARLBOROUGH AND WEST BAY STREET BETWEEN NAVY LION
  • ROAD AND NASSAU STREET - BOTH SIDES
  • NASSAU STREET BETWEEN WEST BAY AND DELANCY STREETS - BOTH SIDES

ROAD CLOSURE

Starting from 6:00 a.m. on Friday 31st May, 2024, until after the procession departs Bank Lane and George Street, the following streets will be closed to vehicular traffic:

  • BAY STREET BETWEEN EAST STREET AND NAVY LION ROAD - BOTH SIDES
  • PARLIAMENT STREET BETWEEN SHIRLEY STREET AND WOODES RODGERS WHARF -BOTH SIDES
  • CHARLOTTE STREET BETWEEN SHIRLEY STREET AND WOODES RODGERS WHARF - BOTH SIDES
  • FREDERICK STREET - BOTH SIDES
  • MARKET STREET BETWEEN BAY, PRINCESS AND DUKE STREETS - BOTH SIDES
  • GEORGE STREET BETWEEN BAY AND DUKE STREETS - BOTH SIDES
  • KING STREET BETWEEN GEORGE AND MARKET STREETS - BOTH SIDES

TRAFFIC DIVERSION:

All vehicular traffic will be appropriately diverted from the affected area.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force extends their apologies for any inconvenience caused.


POLICE SEIZE AMMUNITION AND ARREST ADULT MALE

In a joint effort on Wednesday 29th May, 2024, police officers seized a quantity of ammunition and arrested an adult male in Flamingo Gardens off Carmichael Road.

Initial reports indicate that around 1:20 p.m., officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit, the Anti- Gang & Firearm Investigation Task Force, and the K-9 Support Unit executed a search warrant at a residence on Bangladesh Crescent, which led to the discovery of a quantity of assorted ammunition and the arrest of the lone adult male occupant.

Investigations are ongoing into this matter.
