NEW PROVIDENCE

OPERATION CEASEFIRE CONFISCATE FIREARM

Officers attached to Operation Ceasefire including members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force arrested two (2) males following the confiscation of a firearm on Monday 27th May, 2024.

Initial reports revealed that officers were conducting mobile patrols on Dean Street around 11:00 p.m. when they observed two (2) males who fled after noticing them, with one of them seen discarding an object.

A chase ensued, which ended in a parking lot on Nassau Street, where police apprehended both suspects, aged 17 years, and recovered the object, which turned out to be a firearm.

Investigations continue.

ADULT MALE TRANSPORTED TO HOSPITAL FROM BRIDGE

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding an adult male who was reportedly on the Sir Sidney Poitier Bridge's perimeter rails.

Initial reports indicate that police received an alert shortly after 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, about a man sitting on the western side of the bridge's rail. Responding officers quickly intervened, assisting the man from the rail.

The 35-year-old man was transported to the hospital via ambulance for further medical attention and evaluation.

Investigations are ongoing.

FAMILY ISLANDS

ELEUTHERA: POLICE INVESTIGATE TRAFFIC FATALITY

Police in Eleuthera are investigating a fatal traffic accident that occurred in Palmetto Point that claimed the life of a 72-year-old man.

Preliminary reports indicate that the accident initially took place on Monday, May 27th, 2024, shortly before 8:00 p.m., when the victim was riding a bicycle north along Kings Highway and a motorist traveling in the same direction collided with him.

The cyclist sustained serious injuries and was subsequently airlifted to New Providence for further medical attention; however, he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, while hospitalized.

Investigations are ongoing into this matter.
