NEW PROVIDENCE

SUSPECTS ARRESTED: FIREARM AND DRUGS CONFISCATED

Police seized five (5) firearms and suspected marijuana in separate incidents on Friday, May 17, 2024, resulting in the arrest of seven (7) individuals.

In the first incident, shortly before 1:00 p.m. officers from Operation Black Strike arrested three males: aged 21, 28, and 31and two females aged 20 and 24 following a police pursuit that concluded on Ruth Close, off Sea Breeze Lane, where the driver reportedly crashed. Officers searched the individuals and their vehicle leading to the discovery of a firearm containing ammunition and a quantity of suspected marijuana.

The second incident occurred around 7:00 p.m., when officers from Operation Black Strike, acting on information, searched an unfinished structure on Isabella Boulevard in Marathon Estates and found a high-powered weapon containing ammunition. This discovery resulted in no arrests.

In the third incident, around 8:25 p.m., Mobile Division officers, while on Corlett Road, apprehended a 41-year-old male who attempted to elude them. During the pursuit, officers observed him discarding an object, which they recovered and found to be a firearm, along with a quantity suspected of dangerous drugs.

The fourth incident took place around 8:30 p.m. on Charles Saunders Highway. According to reports, officers from the Southeastern Division searched a 19-year-old male near a bar, and found in his possession a firearm that contained ammunition leading to his arrest. Following his arrest, officers conducted a search of his residence on Pinecone Avenue and seized a quantity of suspected marijuana.

In the final incident, around 11:00 p.m., officers from Operation Cease Fire, acting on information while in the area of Lightbourne Road in the Rock Crusher area, conducted a search of a bushy area near a vacant property and successfully confiscated a firearm with ammunition. No arrests were made as a result of this discovery.

Investigations are ongoing into these incidents.

FAMILY ISLANDS

ELEUTHERA: POLICE INVESTIGATE ALLEGED DROWNING

Police in Eleuthera are investigating an alleged drowning of a 39-year-old male resident on Friday 17th May, 2024.

Preliminary reports indicate that shortly before 6:00 p.m., police were notified that the victim, while in the area of Palmetto Point, fell overboard from a floating bar. He was retrieved from the water in an unresponsive state; however, CPR was administered until his arrival at the local clinic, where he was examined by the medical doctor, who found no signs of life and pronounced him dead.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death. Investigations continue.
