NEW PROVIDENCE

POLICE INVESTIGATE LATEST HOMICIDE Police are actively investigating a shooting incident that has claimed the life of a 28-year-old male.

The incident reportedly occurred shortly before 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday 10th January, 2024 at Bell Close, Montell Heights.

According to reports, the victim along with a female friend, were leaving the relatives of the female when the victim’s vehicle experienced mechanical difficulties, which resulted in them waiting inside the vehicle.

It was reported that as they waited, a male dressed in dark clothing and a ski mask approached the vehicle, opened the driver's side door and shot the victim multiple times before fleeing the area on foot, making good on his escape.

The victim was transported to the hospital by emergency medical services, where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

During the incident, the female was unharmed and sought refuge in the home of a relative.

Police are appealing to members of the public who may have any information that can assist in solving this matter to contact 919/911, the Criminal Investigation Department at 502-9991/2, or Crime Stoppers at 328-TIPS (8477).

POLICE INVESTIGATE DOUBLE SHOOTING INCIDENT

Two adult females ages 23 and 24 years are hospitalized following a shooting incident that occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday 11th January, 2024 on Rosedale Street off Wulff Road.

Preliminary reports indicate that the females were inside a vehicle, when a male known to them fired multiple gunshots into the vehicle, which resulted in both females being shot.

The females were able to drive themselves to the Wulff Road Police Station where Emergency Medical Technicians collected them and subsequently transported them to hospital, where they both remain in stable condition.

Police are investigating and actively in search of the suspect responsible for the incident.

ADVISORY: ROAD CLOSURE- OPENING OF THE LEGAL YEAR

The Royal Bahamas Police Force wishes to inform the General Public of temporary road closures on Friday 12th January, 2024.

This closure is in effect to facilitate the “Opening of the Legal Year” ceremony, which traditionally signifies the start of the year and provides an opportunity for the Tribunal to reflect on its performance and address the Bahamian public on various matters.

ROAD CLOSURE:

The following streets will be closed between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.:

  • EAST MALL DRIVE AND WEST MALL DRIVE, NEAR GARNET LEVARITY JUSTICE CENTER
  • PIONEERS WAY, BETWEEN EAST MALL AND CHRIST THE KING CHURCH

MEDIA COVERAGE REQUESTED

On Friday 12th January, 2024 the U.S. Government will transfer four (4) SAFE Boats, six (6) Jaws of Life apparatus, along with Ballistic vests to the Royal Bahamas Police Force.

The boats, which are enclosed with cabin and trailers are valued at $1,642,326.00 and will be deployed to Nassau, Abaco, North Andros and Bimini. These vessels will be utilized to assist in shallow water operations to counteract illicit activities.

The Jaws of Life apparatus are valued at $189,524.00 and will also be used on various islands to assist with vehicular accidents.

The Ballistic vests are valued at $40,876.00 and will be presented to the Commissioner of Police, along with members of the Senior Executive Leadership Team, and officers from the Security Intelligence Branch.

The assets which are worth an estimated two (2) million dollars, will take place at 11:00 a.m. at the Police Academy, University Drive, Nassau Bahamas.

ADVISORY: TEMPORARY CLOSURES OF WESTERN ESPLANADE WAY REFERENCE TO MARATHON BAHAMAS

The Traffic Division of the Royal Bahamas Police Force wishes to inform the public that Western Esplanade Way will be temporarily closed to motorists on Saturday, January 13th 2024 to Sunday January 14th 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This closure is necessary to facilitate the staging area for the annual Marathon Bahamas. The public is further advised to avoid this area.
