NEW PROVIDENCE
4 FIREARMS SEIZED, 10 ARRESTED DURING OPERATION EAGLE CLAW
An intelligence-led operation conducted by the police and officers from the Royal Bahamas Defence Force on Thursday, April 18, 2024, resulted in the arrest of ten (10) adults, and the confiscation of the following:
- Over thirty-two (32) pounds of suspected marijuana worth an estimated $32,500.00
- Four (4) firearms: 3 high-powered weapons and 1 handgun
- More than two hundred, ninety (290) rounds of assorted ammunition,
Officers from the Central Intelligence Branch, Operation Cease Fire, the Drug Enforcement, and K-9 Units and the Mobile Division executed multiple search warrants at several residences throughout New Providence, which resulted in the seizure of the illegal items and the arrest of nine (9) males and one (1) female for possession of dangerous drugs with the intent to supply, possession of firearms and ammunition, and possession of counterfeit currency. The Royal Bahamas Police Force remains relentless in its efforts to reducing and preventing criminal activity, with the ultimate goal of fostering safer communities.
JUVENILE MALE ARRESTED FOR ARMED ROBBERY
A 17-year-old male is being questioned in connection with an armed robbery that occurred on Thursday 18th April, 2024, around 6:45 a.m.
Initial reports indicate that the victim was cycling along Carmichael Road when he was struck off his bicycle by two (2) unknown males, both of whom were armed with blunt and sharp objects.
It is reported that the culprits robbed the victim of his bicycle, cash, and other personal belongings.
Acting on information, officers apprehended the 17-year-old suspect and are actively searching for the second individual involved.
The Criminal Investigation Department is continuing investigations into this matter.
AMERICAN VISITOR ARRESTED FOR SUSPECTED HEROIN
A 34-year-old American male from Indiana is in police custody after he was found in possession of suspected Heroin.
Officers from the Airport Division arrested the male shortly after 4:00 p.m. on Thursday 18th April 2024 while at the Lynden Pindling International Airport.
The Drug Enforcement Unit will conduct further investigations into this incident.
NORTHERN BAHAMAS
GRAND BAHAMA: ARMED ROBBERY ARREST UPDATE
Police in Grand Bahama are questioning three (3) individuals, a 30-year-old resident of Grand Bahama, along with two Jamaican women, aged 35 and 25, in connection with an armed robbery.
Preliminary reports revealed that shortly before 4:00 a.m. on Thursday 18th April 2024 police were notified of gunshots in the area of Melbourne Crescent.
Police responded and on arrival were informed that a male and female were seated inside a vehicle when they were approached and subsequently robbed of a substantial amount of cash and other personal property, by an unidentified male, armed with a firearm.
The suspect was able to make good his escape through nearby bushes.
The Criminal Investigation Department is continuing investigations into this matter.
GRAND BAHAMA: MALE FOUND FLOATING IN POND
Police in Grand Bahama are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an adult male discovered floating in a pond off Sea Horse Road on Friday 19th April, 2024 shortly before 8:00 a.m.
According to preliminary reports, responding officers on arrival at a golf course confirmed that an unresponsive adult male was discovered submerged in the pond.
After retrieving him from the water, emergency medical personnel and the medical doctor examined him, and found no visible trauma but pronounced him dead.
A post-mortem examination will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
Investigations continue.
